What does over-eating, poor financial behavior, and lack of trust in a relationship all have in common? I’m glad you asked. They are all unhealthy. Pretty obvious, right?

Unfortunately, there’s an unhealthy practice that often goes unnoticed. It has the potential to steal your ideas, kill your dreams, and destroy your quality of life. I’m talking about clutter.

Not the kind you’re probably thinking about. Yes, consumerism is alive and well; however, it’s not the only reason so many are becoming mental hoarders. Take a moment and look around. Think outside the box or your home. How much information do you take in daily? What do you see, hear, and respond to regularly?

It doesn't matter if your home is clutter free or you consider yourself a die-hard minimalist; mental clutter doesn’t play by the rules. That’s why it is so important for us to put things in place to protect our mental space. We must learn how to slowly include healthy mental practices into our daily routines. Maybe that means more quiet time in the car, less time on social media, turning off cellphones for 15-30 minutes a day, etc. You get to decide what practices may or may not work for you.

Small changes tend to have big impacts. Do it as if your life depended on it because in some ways it does. Besides, making a choice to do nothing is probably your norm. Well, how’s that working out for you?
