A Cup of Coffee

This morning as I sat in my quiet place, holding a full cup of coffee, I saw a reflection of myself. Before taking a sip, I realized my life is often full of hope, smiles, laughter, advice, prayers, new ideas and positivity. Nonetheless, as I began to sip, I saw ways that I intentionally give and areas where life takes from me. Regardless, with every sip my cup was less full and becoming more and more empty; just like me. I thought to myself, “Wow!”.
For me it was a cup of coffee. For you it might be a glass of water or wine. Either way, how do we refill? The Christian community may respond, with praise and worship. The Nike community says, “Just do it!” What do you say?




@ocarey: Thank you so much for your feedback. Listening more and talking less is definitely an area that I have struggled with in the past; along with running on empty. I'm learning how to save a little for myself and become a better listener.
@gjemelv: Thanks for stopping by. I'm a nature lover and always welcome fresh air.
I've learned to refill by making time/taking to to just relax. Relaxing outside in the sun, breathing the fresh air, or relaxing on a cool night, taking in the light from the moon- either way, this is how I refill.
This is the perfect day for me to respond to the "cup of coffee." I often find myself empty, having poured out everything I have, sometimes giving that which was not intended for me to give at all.
The same way I restore is the way I learn how not to give away everything -- listen. Listen to that inner voice that is so wise to inform us when we're reaching that point of emptiness. So many of us run right through the warning signals and then wonder how did we get to this place of emptiness.
As I learn to listen more than I talk, I'm sure I will learn not to keep pouring out everything and then wondering…
