Many of us are trying to gather our thoughts and accurate information regarding the worldwide pandemic, Coronavirus. The impact is far more than one could have ever imagined. The rising number of deaths, unemployment rate, miscommunication and future uncertainties are just a few contributing factors for mental and emotional breakdowns.
While I'm no expert and this post may not reach the masses, I'd like to make a few suggestions that may be helpful to a few and shared with many.
First, let's stop and take a moment to breathe. No...I'm serious. Find a place where you can experience a moment of silence and just breathe. Take 5 minutes out of every hour you're awake. By bedtime, you would have allowed roughly 1 hour of meditation into your day. Yes, it's hard, hectic and scary right now; but panic and worry will not change anything.
Second, for many of us hand washing, covering your mouth and social distancing was first introduced at home, then practiced in grade school; preschool even. Soap and water was used after every restroom break, after recess or other outside activities and before meals; including snacks. Covering your mouth when you cough, then washing your hands afterwards, was simply "good manners". We were taught to line up at arm's length; which was measured by placing your hand on the person's shoulder in front of you and stepping back away from that person until your arm was fully extended. No hand sanitizer, no problem.
Finally, be nice. Again, I'm not joking...be nice. Now is a great time to practice an "act of kindness". Give a compliment, share from your stockpile, pray, listen, etc. Learn how to laugh and smile. It's contagious!
